• Deployed Care Packages

So Beth made me think of this over on the FB page.

I think we should put together a list of deployed addresses so anyone on the forum can send care packages especially coming up on the Christmas season. Addresses to send care packages are not sensitive information as long as you don't include a specific name. First Seargants in the AOR(deployed location) will ensure that care packages are taken care of as long as they are sent to a specific unit.

Quick note: If you want a care package to arrive on time for Christmas there is a cut off date and that even isn't a guarantee that it will get there in time but trust me it will still be appreciated. Typically that date falls on or around the 5th of December if my memory serves me right.

Obviously the addresses are sort of easy to come by if you make a phone call or two and if you care enough to send a package you care enough to find the address. What's more important to me is what is next.

What to NOT send. It would be cool to put down here what are things not to send as well as to send but honestly it sucks to throw things out over there especially when someone went out of their way to send it but some stuff is either just lame or just not useful or wanted at all.

I will reserve post number two in this thread for a list of addresses if they come availabe. post number three will be what not to send and post number 4 will be what you deployed guys and gals want to see in care packages.

    Deployed addresses.

No names will be given here only complete enough addresses for First Sergeants to forward to personnel.

      Re: Deployed Care Packages

List of junk to not send to deployed personnel.

      Don't send old Halloween Candy.

Don't send the crap you pulled out of your Junk Drawer...it's junk.

For the most part we don't need tissue paper.

      Expired anything is just bad.

Socks aren't really useful since we are required to wear a specific type of sock all the time, unless you know what is authorized in the specific service it is you are sending them to.

        Re: Deployed Care Packages

Here's the stuff us deployed people actually want in care packages. Mostly my opinion based on crap and good stuff I've received.

Good candy(new stuff that you would actually eat yourself)

Good books, big name authors, military based novels

        Jeep and off road magazines

        Summer sausage

        Pistachios

Girl scout cookies(thin mints and somoas)

Holiday cards, even mass cards from school kids, we love how much they really appreciate us, we even like to write back

        Microwave popcorn

        Pop tarts

My wife reminded me of this

Please DO NOT send porn or alcohol. This stuff will either get caught by customs or it could get a service member in deep shit.

Thanks Beth. I get notifications on all my threads so hopefully I'll be able to make updates as they come in but if work takes over like it has I'll be able to let you know.

A big thanks goes out to you and Doug and Wayne(mainly for his service) for your continued support of the forum as well as our service members serving in the states, overseas and in the worst deployed locations imaginable.

                Re: Deployed Care Packages

Just FYI if a person wants to send a care package the USPS has some weird rules but it's not that hard to use google to get the correct info.

You can get away with "any soldier" but it's frowned upon.

If you don't have a name you can mail it to the "first sergeant" or "chaplain" or "commander/commanding officer" and either one of those will make sure it gets distributed out to the troops.

Here is some useful info Any Soldier Inc. ... How to Send

I'm not a pro at this and really just want to get something together with the holiday season coming up. I promise you that other than a package from a family member there is almost nothing that means more to a deployed troop than a care package that says you actually care.

Just wanted to give this post a bump. If there is anyone that has an address of a deployed soldier, please feel free to put it here on this thread so that care packages can be sent out. Please also be sure to update your thread. Before the holidays, I sent out a big care package and it ended up getting returned. I believe the stamp said the person could not be found by the time the box got back to me, some of the items were expired Thank you again to all of our Military. Without you, we could not have the freedoms we have. God Bless.
