Gonna be 2.72 gears, unless some crazy changed the gears and put the tag back on.

The bottom number shows the 2 72 49-18 which is 49 divided by the 18. Which is your ring gear tooth count divided by your pinion tooth count.

Most charts I have found don't even show the 2.72... Hopefully I can get to the rear soon to see what that clip says. Thanks for the info.

The front and the rear should match eachother. assuming no body has changed the gears and put the tag back on, like was stated above, they should be 2.72 as well.

I'd like to know where you pulled those numbers from, there's nothing on that tag that could possibly indicate those gears and in the early 80's AMC put in a lot of 2.72 gears.

Re: Gearing question or translation of gearing clip

He is either reading the top row like it has the gearing hidden in it, or he is going off what was fairly common for that time frame. the thing is that the bottom row is where the gearing is located, where it says 2.72, as well as gives the ring to pinion tooth count.
